Procrastination:
The primary key to failure.
Having gone through a level of education, and met a
few successful people and several numbers of people who fail unfortunately. The
excuse has always been the same. But among young people whom I’ve been with I
realize that procrastination has always had its way.
DEFINITION:
What is Procrastination?
Oxford advanced learners’ dictionary defines Procrastination
as the act of someone delaying something that is meant to be done usually
because he/she do not want to do it. When a person chooses to do something else
at the expense of doing what was supposed to be done it is called
procrastination.
CAUSES
When people procrastinate, it is often as a result
of the following:
·
Laziness
·
Lack of time-value
·
Carelessness
·
Indiscipline, etc.
And these factors devalues one’s ability, it makes a
once brilliant young kid engage in malpractice in an exam just because he/she
procrastinated in reading for an examination. When a procrastinator discovers
that the time lost cannot be retrieved again then they find an artificial means
of making up for what was lost, and that is failure in the making.
Success aspirants should develop the “do it now
attitude” so as to achieve designated goals. When one decides to perhaps read,
write, start up a business, go to a place, change occupation, get married or do
anything relevant, it is expected to be done, that is the real reason why we
have more failure people working today. Many have lost their jobs, many their
lives, many appointments of great importance, some business proposals, some
project refusals and many other mischievous disappointment just because of one
known giant called PROCRASTINATION.
9 Things procrastination
would do to you.
Procrastination has resulted to
several issues that the solution has been far-fetched. People are suffering as
a result of procrastination either directly or indirectly, and some are:
1. Regret
2. Failure
3. Loss
of focus
4. Resentment
5. Disappointment
6. Loss
of opportunity
7. Degradation
8. Loss
of self confidence
9. Ill-self
esteem
1. Poverty.
THE
WAY OUT OF PROCRASTINATION
1. Totally
decided mind: a mind that has not been fully made up about doing something now
will certainly be diverted if something eventually comes up.
2. Developing
a value for time; people should learn how to put value on every second they
spend doing something. “A well planned schedule can hardly pass a day without
achieving a goal”.
3. Personal
discipline: when a person is not disciplined, everything goes and that means
unorganized and screwed. When asked to do something that is necessary at a set
time, one has to discipline one’s self to do it at the exact time so it becomes
part of you.
4. Start
little: in case of business ideas/plans, maybe you have little money to start
with and you perhaps search for bank loan or hope to get money for a large
capital. Good but when you spend the money for minor expenses and it has come
to very little, then you can’t even start again, and it leads you back to
square one. But when you start with the little you have, you tend make more.
As a student, you have plans to
read like 3 books a day, if it’s your first time, I advice you start from 1
before you go over to 2 then 3, because a saying goes “Rome was not built in a
day”. Start from somewhere as a business person, clergyman, student, and
musician, etc.
