“There is that speak like piercings of a sword:but the tongue of the wise is health” (Pro. 12:18)
You can tell a wise man by the kind of words that come
out of his mouth. Words are not to be used as swords and spears but as
medicine. Your words should bind up broken heart, and give hope to the
hopeless. Anytime you speak right, your words give healing to your listeners.
While speaking, purposely select your words from today, words that are mild, soothing, encouraging, and edifying.
Things the tongue should not say are listed below:
1. DON’T SPEAK EVIL AGAINST
PEOPLE IN AUTHORITY: whether it be your president, governor, general manager, religious
leader i.e. perhaps pastors, leader or ruler of your people, parents, no matter
what they do or what you hear about them-don’t carry it about, Pray for them.
2. DON’T GOSSIP YOUR COLLEAGUE,
FRIEND OR PARTNER: “Did you like what he did?” “I didn’t”. The next time you make such a
comment to anyone apart from John himself,
you are gossiping John.
3. DON’T BOAST: Are you a fine orator? Remember King
Nebuchadnezzar in the holy scriptures who bragged of who he had become and God
sent him into exile for seven(7) years where he ate grass and became like a
monster until he recognize God as the only sovereign of all creature. Always
remember the role God plays in your life.
4. DON’T COMMENT ON ALL YOU SEE: Have you become an unpaid vendor?
You sight a newspaper headline in London and you start running commentaries on
its implications to America, without reading the content of the article.(Half
truth is dangerous)
5. DON’T FORESWEAR YOURSELF: Be it in the court of law,
there is a provision for you to merely affirm your words. Always “let your nay
be nay and your yea be yea. Whether its relationship oath or so, do not
foreswear. Don’t be a fake person, I dislike them. Be truthful and trustworthy.
6. DON’T CONFESS NEGATIVE: Someone asked about your
health and you replied, “Fine, but am still cold, having headache, am not even
sure I could survive it”. Be positive, act to get well, and have the faith that
you will get up soon.
7. DON’T BE A TALKACTIVE: Don’t “parrot” for the
sake of being called a good social mixer. “A fool is full of words” (Eccl.
10:14) Why be a talkative?
8. DON’T CURSE: “Does a fountain send
forth at the same place sweet water and bitter?” How do you bless God but curse
human beings with the same tongue? Be wise. Tame your tongue to bless always.
9. DON’T MURMUR AND
DON’T COMPLAIN: Mariam did it and became a leper (Num. 12: 1-10). Korah, Dathan,
and Abiram did it and the ground swallowed them up alive with their entire
households (Num. 16:1-33) BUILD-UP WITH YOUR TONGUE (Prov. 14:1) Do your words
heal of kill?
